Hugh Blair-Smith started working at the MIT Instrumentation Lab in 1959. Blair-Smith was initially responsible for the design and implementation of the assembler for what was to become the Mars mod 1 and its successors mod 2, mod 3C, and the Apollo Guidance Computer family. He later created fault-tolerance software for the Space Shuttle program.
